HYDE.

February 19.— The weather is again all that could be desired, and everybody is busy harvesting. The shearing is just finished. Several new binders are in the district this year, and all seem to be giving satisfaction. The crops are laid in several places, but the binders seem to do very fair work in most of it. Leading-in will commence in a day or two. Otago Central Railway.— The railway is now running to Moloney's, or rather the ballast engine is, for it is not opened for traffic yet. Wool is taken down from there, but as carriers have to go on to Middlemarch for back loading the upcountry public cannot take advantage of it. The rock cutting will soon be finished, so that we shall surely have the railway opened to Hyde soon. The roads from Moloney's to Middlemarch are in a deplorable state, but I suppose they will improve now that we are getting dry weather again. Bachelors' Ball.— The bachelors gave a ball last Friday night, which was well attended. The music was supplied by Messrs Driver and Yates (piano), Gately (piccolo), and Cousin and Avery (cornet). Dancing was kept up till daylight, when the company dispersed, everybody seemingly well E leased with the evening's entertainment —The ood Templars intend having an open-air concert next Saturday evening. Sales. — Messrs Donald Reid and Co. will hold a sale at their yards on the lt,t March. There are several good entries of sheep, and the sale should be a success.
