NOTES BY JACK.
The Caledonian and Taieri Clubs played a pairs match on the Caledonian green last Saturday, and the Caledonian were very badly beaten. I have nob seen the scores, bub it says a lob for the Caledonians that the secretary could not hand the particulars of the game to the press for publication. There is no reason why this should not be done.
As I intimated in last week's issue, the intention of the New Zealand Bowling Assooiation is to hold a tournament during Easter. Tho association will meet too late (Thursday, 22nd inst.) for full particulars in this issue. Owing to the kindness of the hon. secretary, Mr E D. Butts, I am able to give an idea a& to the programme which is intended to bo followed out. The tournament is to be called "The Easter Games," and it will commence on Good Friday, March 23. The first day is to be solely devoted to inter-club matches ; the second (Saturday) inter-club matches continued, pairs, and singles; on Monday, 26th, inter-club matches, pairs, and singles are to be concluded. The following is one of the conditions :—"All: — "All competitors must be members of a club affiliated to the association and wear the colours of the club." I understand that substantial prizes will be given to be competed for, and no doubt those clubs affiliated will enter Btrongly and make a good display. It has been suggested to me that seeing that only two greens, the Kaituna and the Caledonian, are available, there should bo a limit to clubs entering, but I think the old plan will suit best. Let as many enter as care about doing so— the more the merrier.
I have not heard further what the Oamaru clubs intend to do in the way of providing amusements to the bowling fraternity, but seeing that they are so late in making up their minds, they had better "bide a wee " and make the Easter bowling an Oamaru institution in future.
