THE LYELL CREEK COMPANY.
A Lyell correspondent telegraphs :— " The Lyell Creek Company's mine manager reports: 'The contractors have extended the tunnel a further distance of lift for the week; total distance driven since starting, 26ft. The driving still continues good, and rather of an easier nature than last week. The air is getting bad, but will be remedied as soon as more pipes are made, which I have ordered, and expect to have in position next week.' " ,„,,.*. Another correspondent telegraphs :— A letter has been circulated in Dunedin to the effect that the Lyell Creek Extended Company is not properly managed by the new directors, which is entirely false and without the slightest foundation. The three directors here are practical miners and large shareholders, and of course have the interests of the company in view. A Reefton sharebroker, by false statements, is attempting to damage the reputation and management of the new men, who are undoubtedly working for the best interests of the claim and supported by over three-fourths of the shareholders."
