WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS.

By P. Rompter.

February 17

Dbah Pasquin, — With the repetition of •* Niobe " last Monday evening, and a very moderate interpretation of "Caste" on Tuesday evening, the Brough and Boucicault (thoßß Busy B-'s) Company finished up one of the most brilliant seasons ever held in Wellington, when for tho whole stay the takings averaged £100 per night, and the management will ever wear a soft place for Wellington. We were delighted with our visitors, and it is indeed well that the pleasure has been mutual. Two performances were given in Palmerston North, on the way to Napier, " Niobe" and " Dandy Dick" forming the bill. May it not be long ere we see this company round again with those new pieces which promise so well.

After the departure of the B.s we were left with all but a blank week, to look forward to a season of liveliness promised to us by Messrs St. Clair and Hamilton, the former of whom has been doing Lambton Quay and our other lovely promenades fixing things up. Frank M. Clarke's Alhambra Company, as the combination is called, promise much in the way of good-looking ladies — Whose hearts are let for the season— The season is sure to be gay ; — They will dance and look very handsome, While we have the piper to pay With compliments and with roses, And remembering fans and things. We have got to be very devoted— But no talk of engagement rings. The company opens in the Opera House on Monday. They did a big season in Auckland, and I am sure everyone wishes J. St. C. and A. H. a good time as managers.

The Payne Family of bellringers did a very successful short season at the Criterion Theatre early in the week, and then moved across the Straits, where they go for a tour of the West Coast.

Not in the 'script, but overheard in the stalls of our Opera House during "Caste": — Voice on the stage : "My dear fellow, all women are angels." Voice in the stalls (female): "And the men are devils."

To-night in the Criterion Theatre is to be opened a Mirror Mystery show, entitled " The Garden of Eden and Crystal Maze." I understand Mr Smart, proprietor of the Criterion, is getting over a good variety show from t'other side, to arrive shortly. If I remember right it was a fellow named Cooke (not the captain, but the alphabetical one, J. E. V.) who gives this good advice :—: — Here's a motto, just your fitLaugh a little bit ! When you think you're " trouble hit," Laugh a little bit ! Look Misfortune in the face, Bear the beldam's rude grimace ; Ten to one 'twill yield its place If you have the wit and grit Just to laugh a little bit ! Keep your face with sunshine lit — Laugh a little bit 1 Cherish this as sacred writLaugh a little bit. Keep it with you, sample it — Laugh a little bit. Little ills will sure betide you, Fortune may not sit beside you, Men may mock and Fame deride you, But you'll mind them not a whit If you laugh a little bit-
