The Hamilton Run. TO THE EDITOR.
Sih, — I notice in your last week's issue a letter signed "Pat," in which the writer sneeriugly reters to a resolution passed by the Laud Board in dealing with a petition from residents here. Anyone net knowing the run would, on reading " Pat's" letter, think the hundred and odd disappointed applicants for land on Preston's could get it here, whereas nearly all the low land has already been taken up ; and if the run is divided there will be about half a dozen sections to apply for — all of it on the mountains—for the Minister for Land?, when at Sowburn, distinctly promised us a reserve or commonage for the use of the residents if the run was cut up. The same, I believe, was also promised to the Hamiltons people. This commonage will take what little of tho flat there is left, and the face of the Rock and Pillar is left for settlement. Surely the wants and wishes of 50 people should be considered before those of five, and I think the Government will look at the question in that light also. I can assure "Pat" that the petition will bear publication, that the signatures of all (without a single exception) the male residents of Sowburn will be found on it, and nearly the same at Hamiltops. But he won't find the grooms' or any other of the permament station hands' names on it. By inserting this you will oblige A Lot of Sowburnites. Sowburn, February 12.
