THE COOLGARDIE GOLDFIELD.

TKrrTerth correspondent of the Argus telegraphed on the Ist inst. : — "The latest telegraphic news from Southern Cross states that a large number of miners are being employed in order to comply with the labour conditions on the expiration of the suspension of those conditions at the end of the month. Wonderfully rich gold has been struck at the 100 ft level in Bayley's Reward mine. This is the deepest level yet struck. The face is richer in gold than in any other part of the mine. Water is growing scarcer every day, and has risen from 6d to 9d per gallon. Daring the week men have been driven in from the outaide fields every day. Hundreds are arriving from all parts of Australia. The supply of water is not equal to the demand. At present there is every prospect of a serious water famine unless rain falls Bpeedily. At Hannan's rush the price of water is now Is 3d per gallon. The new find of gold at the 100 ft level in Bayley's mine grows richer as the work of opening up proceeds. The face is now yellow with gold. A promising patch has been met with in the reef at a depth of 30ft in Cosgrove's in Bayley's South mine. Gold is showing freely in the lower ahaft, which is being sunk on the sft reef. A rich leader has been struck on the I O U claim, 15 miles from Hannan's. During the past week 600oz of gold has been dollied out by Doolette and party, who recently purchased the claim for £4000. The weather is hot, and there are no signs of a change."
