Monday afternoon, the stb, proved lovely and warm — quite a pleasant surprise after the terrible weather we have experienced — and accordingly a large gathering assembled at Montecillo, glad to avail themselves of the lovely day. As usual on Mondays, croquet was played on two lawns, and tea was served outside, so those not joining the croquet sets could have the pleasure of watching the different games. The gardens and shrubberies still prove a great attraction to walk about in, and although the gooseberries have come to an end, there are many other fruits to take their place. - Miss Reynolds wore a handsome dress of grey and blue Bhot silk trimmed with blue silk and lace ; Miss R. Reynolds, grey figured delaine, with grey hat covered with oatrich feathers ; Misß V. Reynolds, a holland costume trimmed with white braid ; Miss MacNeil, a stylish^dress ofheliotrope shot material trimmed with bands of gold galon, floral hat of burnt straw ; Miss R. Farqubar, a pretty spotted muslin, with large white bat and feathers ; Miss P. Gibsod, black costume, with pink shirt ; Miss R. On Tuesday evening, the Gib, the Misf es Roberts gave a email musical party at their residence, Littlebouroe. There was some very good music dnrirg the evening, Miss Rol e.-ts, Miss Lulu R jbtrts, Miss R. Reynolds, Miss Greenwood (Ohristcburch), Mr Gully, and Mr Finch all contributing songs, while a most successful trio wa9 rendered by Miss Buisck, Mr Gully, and Me Finch. * Miss Roberts wore a pale yellow dress ; Miss Lulu Roberts, a stylish dress of green accordion crepon trimmed with dark green velvet ; Miss Mears (Christchurch), black ; Miss Wright, a handsome empire dress of rich white corded silk trimmed with lace ; Miss R. Reynolds, a dress of heliotrope soft silk, the bodice trimmed with lace ; Miss M. Reynoldp. pale piDk silk with white lace ; Mrs Jowitr, a handsome trained gown cf white satin and rich brocade ; Mrs Finch, black ; M<ss Buisck, black trimmed with black lace ; Miss Dymock, white and yellow ; Miss J. Dymock, white Bilk and lace ; Mies Greenwood (Christchurch), white silk with large green silk sleeves ; Miss Macassey, white, &c.

On Thursday afternoon Mrs Williams held her weekly "At home" at her residence, Anderson's Bay, and a3 Judge and Mrs Williams have only lately returned from their delightful trip to Mount Cook, a large number of friends were present, glad to welcome them back to Danedin. As usual, tennis and oroquet were both indulged in daring the afternoon, and tea was served

under the shelter of the trees overlooking the croquet lawn. Mrs Williams wore a pretty dress of pink and white crepon trimmed with lace ; Miss M. Williams, grey i and white crepon, with zouave bodice over ! white lace trimming, and her younger sisters all wore white. The tennis player 3 wore dark skirts and shirts. Amongst them were the Misses Haggitt, Parker, Gibson, Stanford, Rattray, &c. Mrs R. Neill wore a costume of light brown and blue striped cloth, brown bonnet trimmed with blue; Mrs Stephenson, black, and black bonnet; Miss Stephenson, a costume of blue and' brown shot material trimmed with blae satin, large white hat trimmed with roses ; Mrs Parker (Ohristchurch). a dark tweed skirt and jacket, with floral hat ; Mrs Oliver, plum-coloured silk costume ; Miss Rolleston (Caristchurch), slate-coloured gingham dress, and ferey hat ; Miss P. Gibson, black, with zouave bodice over a blue bodice ; Miss Blair (Wellington), grey trimmed with black velvet ; Mrs Hancock, a dark skirt, with ribbon corselet over a light blouse ; Miss Lulu Roberts, a very pretty dress of grey trimmed with narrow bands of yellow covered with white lace, floral hat; Miss Ooburn (Melbourne), a blue skirt and white shirt, wifh white hat and feathers; Mrs W. G. Neill, a brown coßtume trimmed with gold ; Miss Neill, a red shot ekirt and light blouse ; Mra Postlehwaite, a black costume trimmed with bands of yellow and black lace ; Miss Reynolds, a tan-coloured costume and blue shirt ; Miss Wilkins (Auckland), black, with zouave over black silk bodice ; Miss Cutten, a dark blue drill costame trimmed with white lace ; Mrs Sinclair-Thomson, a black striped silk with large black satin sleevee, black hat with feathers.

On Friday afternoon the Misses Rittray were " At home " for tennis and crcqaet, and a good many players availed themselves of

the invitation. The heavy rain which came down in such torrents late in the afternoon caused a somewhat hasty retreat to be necessary, and rather hurriedly put an end to a pleasant afternoon. There were present, besides the Misses Rattray, Miss E. M'Laren, Miss Dymock, Miss J. Dvrnock, Miss Coburn (Melbourne), Mrs Ridings, Mrs Glendining, Miis Gibson, Mrs Stock, Miss R. Neill, Sec.

On Friday evening the Misses Royse gave a most enjoyable little dance to a few young people. As usual with Mrs Royse's lovely garden, the flowers were exquisite, filling up every vacant spot, and the table decorations weie both choice and artistic. About 20 were present, and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

I have another engagement to announce this week — that of Miss Sise to Mr C. Raid, third son of Mr John Rdid, of Eldtralie.
