Criticisms.
Mr W. J. Marsh, Arrow, writes :— Problem No 1141 (by Mr J M'Kinnon) can, I think, be won by a much shorter method than the play given. I have played it in this way : — Position — Black men on 4, 9, 23 ; White men on 12, 20, k 21. White to play and win.
(«) Cuts off Mr M'K'nnon's variation, and opens fresh play. (6) If 12 8,19 24, &/„ and White wins.
A correspondent writes :— In Game 2109, at 10th move of var. (n), the position is :— Black men on ], 2, 3, 5, C, 11, 12, 22 ; White men on 13, 18, 19, 20, 24, 27, 30, 32. Black to play. I think it is a win for Black as follows :—
