The balance sheet for the Melbourne tour was presented by the treasurer, showing expenditure £101 3s lid, and receipts mi. ' association contributing the balance. -Che Treasurer reported that there was a SS^? o*? l he credit of fche association of £71 12s 6d, the liabilities being nil. A letter was read from Mr W. W. Norton, Han Francisco, re the visit of New Zealand representatives to the Midwinter Fair Athletic games at San Franeigco. The Secretary reported he had replied to the communication. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Harris, seconded by Mr Williams-" That the associa' tives »egrefcß» egrefcB ' fc cannot sen* l any representar.i T v v Secretary reported that the Oamaru Club being defunct had ceased to belong to the association. Mr Griersen was appointed as representative of the association at the championship athletic meeting to be held at Dunedin on the 17th inst. The other officials were appointed as under : Timekeepers, Mesßrs Cooke and Lindsay; judges— Messrs Coates, Anderson, and Bell; referee, Dr Roberts ; Committee of Management—Dr Roberts, Messrs Ness, Grierson, and secretaries of affiliated clubs ; the remaining, officials to he appointed by the Dunedinl LrIUD. Mr, Qusaok moved—" That the secretary b& insti?aoted< to write to the secretary of the> Linwood Football Clob for particulars of theraoes reported to have been run in connection', with the annual pionic of the club." Mr Wood seconded the motion, which was: carried. Mr Casack reported that a member of the> C.A.A.0., J. O'Neill, had rim in open eventsat the Duvauchclle's Bay and Little Riversports, though he had tried to dissuade hinu from so doing. Mr Harris agreed with Mr Cusaek, expressing strong disapproval and also left fche room. As there was then no quorum the teat of thebusiness (which should have included the con- ■ sideration of applications for reinstatements-/ had to be abandoned..

A majority of the members of the Garrison Band have decided to form a new band, under the oonduotorship of Signor Squarise. Mr J. G Binns, of the Nebhersole Colliery, Burton-on-Trent, and formerly Government mining engineer at Dunedin, vice-president of the Chesterfield Institution of Engineers. Mr James Moir, Pukeuri, and late of Mount Cargtll School, was presented last week by his pupils with a silver cruet and butter knife, and' by his, singing class with a very handsome silver - kettle, with spirit lamp and stand complete. A singular phenomenon is puzzling the resi- - dents of Kilbirnie, Wellington. The keeper of the - local baths has a well situated not more than 10ft from the beach, from whioh he obtains per- ■ fectly fresh water. About 200 ft further up the road Mr Preston has sunk a well, which pro- . duced brackish water quite unfit for drinking. The well near the beach is not affected by the rise and fall of the tide, whereas Mr Preßton'& >. well is,
