DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS. Weekly Report.

Messrs Wright, StEPiiENSON, and Co. report as follows :—

Owing no doubt to the number of horses advertised for our sale on Saturday, there was a very large attendance, both from town and country, but we regret to aay that the demand for light horses, of whioh a large number were forward, was not very brisk. Thia may no doubt in a great measure be accounted for by the fact that the best light horses of the sale were very young and newly broken, and buyers were therefore timid about purchasing. This was most noticeable in the consignment from Mr J. Sullivan, of Waimate, whose horses all round were an exceedingly well-bred lot, and certainly deserved better competition. The best demand was experienced for good active spring carters and strong horses fit for buggy or light spring cart work. A large number of these could have been placed to advantage. Draughts met with a fair inquiry, and all good sorts offered for positive sale were readily placed to town and country buyers. We quote : For first-class draughts (extra heavy), £25 to £30 ; for good ordinary draughts (young), £18 to £22; for medium draugnts, £12 to £16 ; for aged draughts, £6 to £10 ; for good hacks and harness horses, £12 to £16 ; for medium hacks and harness horses, £7 to £9 ; for light and inferior hacks and harness horses £2 10s to £5.
