THE CUSTOMS REVENUE.

Invercargill, February 6. The J. G. Ward Farmers' Association of New Zealand (Limited) report on to-day's wool sale as under : — The second sale of the season at Inver cargill was attended by the usual number of buyers, foreign and local. The sale, to suit the convenience of buyers desirous of returning north by the expresa train, commenced at 8.30 instead of 10 a.m. The catalogues were rushed through to spirited bidding. Halfbred (of good quality), crossbred, Lincoln, Leicester, and Romney wools were eagerly competed for at priceß quite on a par with those ruling at the last sale on the sth January. The catalogues generally were comprised of lower-grade wools, very few choice lots being shown. Merinos showed a slight decline fjotn last sale, and locks and pieces were down by ljd per lb. The sale on the whole was very successful, and, with a few trifling exceptiona, the wool offered was all sold — halfbreds to 9}d, crossbreds 83d, merino (only poor quality forward) 6d, and pieces sfd.

The customs revenue collected in the colony in January (exclusive of the Auckland, Kaipara, Patea, and Picton returns, which are not available) amounts to £109,923. the principal amounts being: Wellington £37,235, Christchurch £2o,6B7, and Dunedin £26,056. As compared with the corresponding month last year, Wellington shows an increase of £10,918, Christchurch a decrease of £1693, and Dunedin a decrease of £6712. In,
