LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Laud Board was held on Wednesday last, and was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs H. Clark, J. Duncan, and A. M'Kerrow. Removal or Stock. — Messrs A . Brown aud Co. requested the board to allow them one month from the date of the sale of Runs 170b, 170 c, 170 d, and 170e in which to remove their stock, and it was agreed to allow a fortnight for that purpose in the event of the land being taken up. Hummock. — An application being made by Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., on behalf of Mr Charles Dore, for a licence to occupy Run 121 a, Hummock district, for a period of three years from April 1 next, the board resolved to recommend the Government to grant a temporary license under Clause 219 to graze the land referred to for one year at the present rental ; and an application from the same firm, on behalf of Mr Duncan M'Rae, for a license to occupy Run 121, Hummock, for a like period, was similarly dealt with. Maungatua. — Mrs M. Carr applied for the right to occupy section 12, block XIV, Maungatua, on condition of her undertaking the destruction of rabbits thereon. — The application was declined, inasmuch as the section is open for application at the end of the present month at a | reduced rental. Waipori. — An application by Messrs Reid Brothers, of Lee stream, to have sections 2 and 3, block XII, and sections 7, 11, and 12, block VI, Waipori, withdrawn from sale, was based on the grounds that they had no access to their other land except through these sections, and that their other land was all high, mountainous country, and in the event of their losing these sections they might have to surrender the high ground. — Reporting on the application, Ranger Hughan said ho did not think it desirable or necessary to grant the request, as right of access to the high country was obtainable by the roads in use. The application was declined, the Chief Commissioner stating, however, that that it seemed to bo the opinion of the board that if the sections were not taken up at the end of the month the request might be entertained . — Mr t eid, who was present, then asked the board if they would agree to withdraw sections '2 and 3, block XII, from sale, but it was decided to let the matter stand over until it was seen whether the land was applied for. Applications to Surrender — Ranger Hughan reported on the application by Mr Robert Little to be allowed to surrender small grazing run, Lot 1, Domet, Kyeburn and Kakanui districts, but consideration was postponed for a week, Mr Clark suggesting that a scheme should then be submitted by the chief commissioner for the amalgamation of runs in the district. RaDger Hughan having reported also on the application of Mr T. Chalmer, on behalf of Mr John Porter, for permission to surrender small grazing run, Lot 4, Kakanui district, the board passed the following resolution: — "Governor re» commended to authorise the Commissioner of Crown Lands to accept surrender of the run, the rent being, in the opinion of the board, too high to admit of profitable occupation. This run was from the first considered to be of inferior character as compared with the other subdivisions. G. Sutherland k on small grazing run, section 2, in the same block. — The valuations were approved in each case, the land being burdened in the former case with £118 12s, and in the latter with £228 193. Modnt Hyde. — The board agreed to recommend for the Governor's approval the application of Mr Francis Doherty to purchase section 22, block XII, Mount Hyde district, held under perpetual lease. Silver Peak. — Ranger Eraser's valuation of the improvements upon pastoral run, section 1, block VIII, Silver Peak district, was approved, (he amount of £63 to be paid by the incoming tenant before getting possession. Highlay. — After consideration of a letter from Mr William Donaldson in regard to the valuation allowed for improvements on small grazing run sections 10, 11, and 12, block IX, Highlay district, the board did not see its way to make any alteration in the valuation of the ranger, which he still considered fair and reasonable, and agreed to allow the same time— a fortnight — for the removal of the crop as of etock. Lower Hawea. — Mr W, Gillespie, having paid the amount due by him for valuation of improvements upon section 3, block VII, Lower Hawea district, the board rescinded their resolution declaring the lease foifsited, Maekewhemtua. — An application by Mr F. W. Botting, on behalf of himself and Messrs John Cook and William Curling, for a license to occupy the mining reserves in block IX, Maerewhenua district, was granted, as was also an application by Mr George Thorp, on behalf of himself and Messrs Henry Howe, John Advens, Hugh Cozelly, and Edward Curling, for a license to occupy the mining reserves in blccks VII and X, Maerewhenua — yearly licenses, in each case to date from February 1, being issued for pastoral purposes to the persons named, under clause 116 of the act, at a rental of £1. A report being submitted by Ranger Hughan A3 to the application of Mrs A. Frater for permission to occupy about 50 acres of the mining reserve in bkek IX, Maerewheuua district, the request was declined, and the commissioner for Crown lands was requested to take steps to prevent illegal occupation of the mining reserves at Livingstone by persons fencing in portion of them, it having been reported that this had been done in several cases. Sundry Applications. — The following applications were approved : — For rural land on the occupation with the right of purchase system — IST. Rollinsou, section 22, block V, Woodland district. For rural land on lease in perpetuity — James Caskie, section 4, block VI, Woodland district ; George Diack. sestion 4, block VI, Woodland district. To purchase rural land held on perpetual lease—Robert Charles Honsden, section 46, block IX, Glonomaru district. To transfer small grazing run — Registrar of the Supreme Court to Sarah A. SethSmith, section 7, block VII, Highlay district, with sublease from Sarah A. Seth- Smith to John M'Culloch. To complete purchase of deerred payment land — W. Williamson, sectioas 13, 14, and 15, block VIII, Benger district ; S. M. Barr, section 3, Waikoikoi town ; Henry Cunningham, section 35, block X, Glenkenich district; James Sutherland, section 30, block VI, Table Hill district ; Peter Keenan, section g block XI, Waitahuna West. To surrender

license for occupation with the right of purchase — Peter Foster, section 16, block 111. and section 17, block IV, Tautuku district.
