SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the council was thi>n held for the purpose of passing a special order re Lakes drainage works.

Cr Calder presented a petition from the ratepayers in the district asking the council to raise a loan of £500 for the further extension of the Lakes drainage works, and moved — "That the council by special order, and after the 2nd day of April 1891, constitute part of the Crichton and Matau ridings a special drainage district, to be called the Lakes drainage district, as shown upon a plan that can be inspected at the Athemuum, Stirling ; schoolhouse, Lovell's Flat; and county oilices. Milton ; and that a special rate be made and levied over said district of a penny in the pound to repay a loan of £500 to be raised under ' The Local Bodies' Loan Act 1886.' for the cutting of a canal through Kaitangata lake, widening Morrison's creek, and cutting canal into Tuakitoto lake ; and that a poll of the ratepayers be taken on the proposal."

The following is the schedule of district decided upon : — All the area containpd in blocks II to XII, South Tuakitoto survey district, and block XI, sections 3 to 4. block VIII, sections 4 to 7, block VIE, North Molyneux survey district. The council adjourned to meet again on the second Tuesday in March.
