THE KAIKORAI STREAM.

Cr Samson said he had traced the pollution of the Kaikorai stream to its source, which, there was no doubt was at Messrs Ross and Glondining's mill. There was a considerable amount of dairying through the valley, and though he did not know that the stuff was very detrimental, it must affect the cattle. He moved— " That Messrs Ross and Glendining be written to and asked to try as far as possible to mitigate the nuisance." The rest of the people down the stream were behaving extremely well. Cr Snow seconded the motion. Cr Roberts suggested that Messrs Ross and Glendining might t)e asked to retain their dye stuffs during the day and let them down in the evening. The motion was carried. Crs Snow, Chisuolm, and Andrew opposed the motion.

The Chairman produced a return showing that since the' inspector took office in February 1890, he had supervised contracts to the amount of £3227 (is 2d. so that his time was fully occupied. The council decided to take no action with respect to Bell's road, Whare Flat, the Brockville road, Ewen's road, and the Owhiro road. On the motion of Cr Chisholm, it was agreed to carry out the inspector's recommendation with respect to the use of the grader during the current month, provided the Bottlers interested did the ploughing required. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Snow, to apply under the Public Works Act to the Governor to declare the diversion of the Waipori river through section 50, block 11, Maungatua district, to be a public work within the meaning of the act. On the motion of Cr Snow it was agreed to grant Mr Palmer, of Otakia, permission to raise the road opposite his embankment under the supervision of the inspector. The clerk reported that rates amounting to £2134 were outstanding. — It was resolved to give defaulters 14 days' notice that the rates must be paid.
