THE ASSOCIATION TOUR.

(From Oob Own Correspondent.) A number of players representing the Bowling Association left Dunedin on Monday morning to play a series of matches against country clubs. The arrangements made were that the match should be played on the morning of Tuesday, returning to Milton the same night and playing a scratch match. This could not be carried ont, and at a meeting held, at which Messrs Chalmers and Jeffrey, were present, they expressed a wish that the game should be played on the afternoon of Tuesday. This was agreed to, and arrangements made to take the bowlers round the district. Owing to previous engagements the president (Mr Horsburgh) and Mr G. B. Smith had to proceed to Milton in the afternoon. The team were driven to Gabriel's and Munro's Gullies, Evans's Flat, and the racecourse. They visitors greatly enjoyed themselves, and are under obligations to Messrs Chalmers, Jeffrey, and Morris. In the afternoon the match was played. The Lawrence green was in good order, and an enjoyable game resulted iv a win for Lawrence by a majority of 22 points. Scores and players : — LAWRENCE. ASSOCIATION. J. Johnson J. Morgan Gardner C. T. After refreshments, a visit was paid to the Kaitangata Company's coal mine, where they were courteously received by Mr Shore, the manager, and shown over the mine. The beautiful bowling green was then visited. Originally 120 ft square, a tennis couct has been taken off, so that there is now only room for four rinks. The recent heavy floods unfortunately submerged the green, so that it could scarcely be said to afford opportunities to exact bowlers, especially to those accustomed to the smooth and level greens in Dunedin. However, a very enjoyable and keenly contested game followed, the home team being victorious by 3 points. Players and scores :—: — ASSOCIATION. KAITANGATA. A. Black J. Carson C. F. Greenslade J. T. The Secretary of the association suitably responded, stating that it was intended to invite bowlers to some friendly games on the Dunedin greens during Easter, a programme of which would be shortly issued and circulated. He hoped some of the best Kaitangata bowlers would be ablo to attend. On Wednesday a start was made for Balclutha to play the club there, but the game was not concluded when the telegraph office closed. The result will be found elsewhere. On the same day the five rinks reunited and proceeded to Invercargill.

At the last monthly meeting of the Toko* mairiro Farmers' Club, the following letter was read from Mr D. Dun, secretary of the Gore Farmers' Clvb :— •• The farmers' clubs of Otago and Southland have recently had under consideration the desirability of an alteration of the custom which prevails in weighing in wheat bags and the deduction of 2£ for cash, and are unanimous in preference of net cash and bags being paid for as in the case of oats. A number of buyers, it is known, make the matter optional, being open to deal either way, but the clubs havo resolved to approach millers and merchants, with the view of coming to an understanding and the establishment of a uniform system for the district. In my capacity as secretary for this club, which has taken a prominent pxrt in the matter, I am instructed to ask tbu opiuions held by your club on the subject. I may mention that I now write all the millers and merchants of Otago and Southland with the same request, and on receipt of answer* the proposal is to call a meeting of reprcrenlatives of both interests, to bo held before the harvest at a convenient centre, Fay, Dunediu, where the whole details could be gone into." It waß resolved — •• That the secretary reply that the club are in favour of the 2£ per cent, being ar-olMied and the bags paid for separately," and — ' That Mr Henderson be appointed to attend any meeting of delegates that may be held to discuss the question." No less than 16 Assyrian hawkers journeyedc ycd south by the morning express from Dunedin the other day. They left the train tt various stations between the city and Milr.on, (his being but part of a method by which every di strict is properly canvassed before a departure is made for another city, which forms tbt ir hf-ad-quarterß for the time being. — Taieri Advocate.
