London, January 12. The Bank of England returns, published today, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £16,91(5,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 4t>'s. New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock, 106J ; 3} per cent, do, 96?. New South Wales 4 per cent, do, 104£ ; 3J per cent, do, 93^. Victorian 4 per cent do, 103} ; 3J per cent, do", 93 J. South Australian 4 per cent, do, 101 ; 3J per" cent, do, 93V. Queensland 4 per cent, do, 103 ; 3J per cent, do, 9<JJ. Tasmanian 3J per cent do, 93. Western Australian 4 per cent, do, 104 J. New Zealand long-berried wheat (ex warehouse), 29s 3d (firm) ; South Australian wheat do, 30s (firm) ; Victorian do, 29s 6d (firm). New Zealand mutton : First quality, 4id ; second quality, 4Jd. Lamb : First quality, sd. The hemp market is steady. Wellington, fair quality, £LB.
There is slow demand for kauri gum, only onefourth being sold at last sales. Pale, hard-scraped £6 15s to £18 ; good three-quarter scraped, £4. Sugar : Best German beet, 12s 3d ; do Java, 15s 3d (quiet). No. 1 best Scotch pig iron (f.o.b. in Clyde, 43s (restricted).
Danish butter is realising 123s per cwt. The Ruapehu's (best factory) butter is bringing 106s to 110s. The weather continues mild.
