BITTEN BY A TIGER.

Christchurch, January 10, A sensational incident occurred at Fillip's Circus this afternoon. Cox, the animal tamer, was putting the Bengal tiger through her usual performance. He placed his head in the animal's mouth, when she suddenly closed her jaws, inflicting painful wounds on the trainer's face. Cox retained great presence of mind and released himself without receiving further injury. Medical examination showed that the wounds are not of a serious nature. The incident caused considerable consternation among the audience.

Despite the injuries he received in the afternoon, Cox went through another performance with the tiger at the circus to-night. A young lady was to have entered the lions' cage, bub the police prevented her doing so.
