GAMES.
' Game 2108— " Single Corner." The late Mr E. Deans showed me the following play at the t ime Martins aud M'Kerrow were playing their match in 1859, being some variations on the first game played in .that now famous encounter, John Drummond, Robert Perry, and some other experts ■ were analysing the game, and came to the conclusion that M'Kerrow had missed a win. But E. Deans, who was present, played the White against those experts and drew, as in the trunk. Drummond subsequently published the position in bis third edition of the "Scottish Draughts Player," but omitted to credit Mr Deans with the authorship, but acknowledged MrDeans's claim when reminded of the incident. «
(a) The experts thought M'Kerrow should have scored a win by this move instead of 913. (6) Mr Deans showed the experts that this would draw (Solution of Problem 1152). The above gives the play leading up to position 26, Drummonds Third Edition, and no doubt will prove interesting to the rising generation of players as a specimen of the old school. There were no draughts columns published in Glasgow at that time, consequently most of the play dropped into obscurity. — J. Little, in the Christchurch Pres<L ... ' •"*., „•
