SHOOTING COMPETITIONS.
On Saturday morning the High School Cadets fired a handicap competition for prizes of ammunition. The morning was very web and stormy, especially at the two later ranges. Scores :
A shooting team of the Union street Cadets left town by Friday's express to fire the return match with the Oamaru South School. Captain Rice met the visiting team at the station, and the contest, which took place the same evening, resulted in a victory for the Union street Cadets by 7 points. The team returned to town by Saturday's express, and the intervening time was most pleasantly spent in seeing the various objects of interest about Oamaru, such as the breakwater, and the refrigerating works, which Mr Scott kindly showed them over. The thanks of the corps are also due to Mr Gebbie, the curator of the Oamaru Gardens, whose children are old pupils of the Union street School, for his kindness. He has a fine display of flowers in bloom, as well as a large collection of native plants, of which two beds of many varieties of veronica in lovely blossom form a special feature. Below are the scores out of five shots each : —
