HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Hospital Board then held its annual meeting. Present— Messrs J. Robin (chairman), W. Hay, H. Clark, W. Owen, W. Snow, J. Green, J. 11. Hancock, W. Aitken, J. Roberts, J. It. Monson, and H. Gourloy. '/HE CHAIRMAN. Mr J. Robin was re-elected chairman. AINXUAL REPORT. The following annual repoit was then read :—: — "To the Members of the Otago District Hospital Board. _ " Gentlemen, — In presenting this report we desire to_ say that nothing has occurred in connection with ho-piral affairs since our appointment ou the 17th December last wlrch appertains to the functions of your committee or calls for special comment other than the financial relations necessaiily existing between the board and the Hospital Trustees.
"Onthifl subject we desire to submit the following particulars in regard to transactions during the past eight months of the current iinancial year :-— "Amount paid by the bqard for hospital main> tenance. for eight inontha ended November 30,
1893, £3773 19a 6d. Amount required for period, according to estimate, .£3600. Amount paid in excess of estimate, £173 19s 6d. For the corresponding period of last year the amount paid for maintenance was £3667 Bs, or £106 11s 6d less than for the period under review. "The average number of in-patients daily during the past 12 months has been about 108, as compared with about 77 for the corresponding period of la3t year— thus showing an increase in the average daily in-patients of 31. "That the requirements of the trustees for maintenance for the period has exceeded their estimate to some extent is no doubt owing to the increased number of in-patients, aided considerably by unavoidable expenses connected with new additions to the institution buildings. All things considered, we think that the excess of the trustees' demands over estimate is not an item sufficiently large to call for further comment on our part, and we only desire to say that in our opinion the Hospital Trustees are to be commended for the care and attention they have given to the affairs of the institution, and for the results which have attended their efforts. Whilst saying this, we at the same time express the hope that they may be able to keep within the margin of their estimate when the expenses for the year as a whole are added up. "Your committee have to report fhat the term of a fixed deposit of £500 (being part of the Campbell bequest) expired on the 29th ult., and that your committee decided to re-deposit the same with the National Bank of New Zealand for another term of 12 months. 1
On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Owen, the report was adopted. The following committee were then appointed : Messrs Robin (chairman), Gourley, Hardy, Clark, Monsori, Owen, Green, and Know. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
