OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.
The entries of ales and porter in connection with the Obago A. and P. Society's show were judged on Monday morning by Messrs T. K. Harty and J. Wilson, with the following results : —
First-class Light Ale.— George M'Gavin'3 two exhibits are both awarded first prizes, being equal in merit ; J. Speight and Co., 2 and 3. The judges remarked that J. Speight and Co.'s exhibit, which gained third prize, compared most favourably with the conditions of light ales Medium Ales. — George M'Gavin 1, George M'Gavin and Maurice Joel (equal) 2, J. Speight and Co. 3.
Heavy Ales. — George M'Gavin 1, George M'Gavin and J. Speight and Co. (equal) 2, Maurice Joel 3.
Porter in Bulk.— W. Strachan 1, J. Speight and Co. 2, George M'Gavin 3, Dunedin Brewery c. Bottled Ale.— Maurice Joel 1, George M'Gavin 2 and 3.
Porter in Bottle. —W. Strachan 1, George M'Gavin 2, Dunedin Brewery 3.
The house of Charles Towd, in Mataura township, with most of the contents, was destroyed by fire on Friday. There was an insurance of £200 on the house and furniture, bub in whab office is not known.
