ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT. Tapanui.— (l) The cost of asphalt depends upon the labour available, price of screenings, &c. Twenty-eight gallons of tar make a cubic yard of asphalt. ThK laid 4in thick, will cover 81 Equare feet. The cost of tar at the Dunedm gasworks was a short timo since 4d per gallon, but we fancy* it is a little dearer at present. (2) Unless the asphalt has been badly donethere should be no tendency to "ooze up. A sprinkling of sand would cure the defect.'
