LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attendedby Messrs J. P. Maitland, (chief commissioner), W. Dallas, H. Clark, J. Duncan, and A. M'Kerrow.

Shotover.— The board, having considered the application by Messrs John Allan, David Hazel, P. Reid, and others for a license to occupy one acre of section 86, block V, Shotover, upon which to erect a sheep dip, resolved to grantra license for seven years at £1 per annum, with a license fee of £lls. Naseby.— The Warden, Naseby, in forwarding an application by Jameß Duggan for one acre, held by him under residence area certificate, on Run 208 a, Naseby, reported that he had no objection to the land being sold.— The purchase was approved at £1, with survey fees £4. Kurow.— An application by John , Shine for the grazing right over part of the Waitaki river bed, fronting section 7, block I, Kurow, on condition of his keeping the land clear of rabbits, was considered, and the applicant was requested to forward a sketch of the portion of land desired. Blackstone.— An application" by E.- Hayes for the grazing right over small grazing Runs 225p and 225 d, Blackstone, until they are opened for settlement, on condition of his undertaking the rabbiting, was declined. „,,», t GiMMBRBUttN.— An application by Mark Roberts for a Hcenße under section 116 of the act to occupy for grazing purposes, section 2, block XII, Gimmerburn, was declined. Lauder.— ln respect of an application by John Hamilton for a license to occupy, for grazing purposes, part of forest reserve, north of section 8, block V, Lauder, the board agreed to grant a license for pastoral purposes under clause 116, at 6d per acre, with license fee £1 Is ; and a similar resolution was passed upon Mrs M. Hamilton's application for a license to occupy parts of forest reserve, north of section 7. block V, Lauder, and north of section 50, block 11, Blackstone. 1 Woodlands.— A letter from Mr Surveyor Edie was forwarded through the chief surveyor, giving modified valuations and loadingfor roads in blocks V and VI, Woodlands.— The reduced valuations of the land and roading were approved. Small Grazing Runs.— A report from Ranger Fraser on the following small grazing runs was submitted :— Fergus Fraser, section 7. block VITI, Highlay ; Jas. T. Donaldson, section 11, block IX Highlay; Ellen Muir, section 1, block X, Waihemo. Messrs R. B. Martin and Son, on behalf of Fraser and Mrs Muir, applied for'their exemption from residence on the small grazing runs.— Consideration of the case of Fraser was deferred for a fortnight, and thatjof Mrs Muir for a month, and that of Donaldson for three' months. Sundry Applications.— The following applications were approved :— For rural land on occupation with the right of purchase : William Huckey, section 31, block XIII, Blackstone. For small grazingrun : Andrew .Edward Pitchers, Run '244c, Tiger Hill. To transfer' small grazing run ; Ewen M'Lennan to Jane M'Rae, section 1, block VI, Highlay. To exchange perpetual lease for lease in perpetuity : James Scott, sections 17 and 18, block VI, Gimmerburn. To exchange deferred payment license for lease in perpetuity : James Scott, section 16, block VI, Gimmerburn. To purchase land under perpetuaL lease (to be recommended for the Governor's approval) : George Adams, section 31, block X, Maerewhenua. Consideration of an application for a. transfer of the perpetual lease of section 37, block VI, Gimmerburn, from Richard Twort to Michael Coghlantwas deferred for a fortnight pending the ranger's report. .".'. . , Maerewhenua.— The ranger having reported on the land .in block VII, Maerewhenua, lately purchased from Messrs R. Campbell and Sons for mining purposes, and Mr William Bailey," of Duntroon, having applied fora lease of the, land, it was resolved that the ranger's report be f of warded for the consideration of the Minister 'for Mines, the board being of opinion that the mode suggested for dealing with the land was the most desirable under the circumstances. Consideration' was deferred for three weeks, pending a report from the ranger, of an application' by Mr T. Chalmer, on behalf of G. Botting, to 1 have an area of . 400 acre 3 deducted from hftTpastoral license over section 47, block IX, and section 10, block XVI, Maerewhenua district, on account of the damage done thereto by mining, and an application for a license, under , clause lift of the act, over the area referred to.
