THE VICTORIA DISASTER.
(Peb Pbess Association.)
London,, July 27. The court-martial, in acquitting the survivors 'of the Victoria, expressed regret that Rear-admiral Markham had omitted to demand an explanation of the order issued by Admiral Tryon, but declared that it would be fatal to the best interests of the service to say that he was to blame for obeying the orders of the -admiral, who was on the spot. The verdict of the court attributes the disaster entirely to the turning signal issued by Admiral Tryon, and acquits ■, Captain Bourke and the other survivors of any blame.
The press generally endorse the decision 'of the oourt-martial on the disaster by which H.M.S. Victoria waß lost, and express regret that, Rear-admiral Markham had not dared to disobey the order, though they are not surprised at the refusal. •
