HIRE COURSING AT ROXBURGH
Saturday, the 29 bh insfc., was a gala day to the -lovers of sport in the Teviot district, owing to the generosity of the owner of the Teviot Downs Estate, Mr Gideon A. Smith, in placing at the disposal of license holders the bast part of his estate. A good day's sport was anticipated by all who had the good fortune to be of tue party, for hares were known to be very plentiful. The party arrived in due time at Mr Smith's, where all partook of luncheon, afterwards • wending their way to the scene of action, where their hopes were fully realised, for no less than 36 hares and about 50 rabbits were killed — not a bad kill for a short afternoon. When the sport was over Mr Smith very generously invited all to tea. Before the party broke up three hearty cheers were proposed by the local ranger on behalf of the Acclimatisation Society, and for the day's sport afforded to the license holders, and needless to say the proposal was heartily responded to, after whioh all wended their way home thoroughly satisfied with their afternoon's outing.— Occasional Correspondent.
