CASUALTIES.

Charles Henderson, an Auckland gamdigger, 27 years of age, a single man,- attempted suicide on Thursday night at;- Avbndale, by cutting his throat with a gum knife. Ha . thought people wanted to put him in an asylum. Henderson has been a resident of Avondalo for years. He is a steady man. . ',',. AJMaori named Timoti Earetai died on Thursday from injuries sustained by falling over a cliff a fortnight ago at Taiaroa Heads. 'Deceased was under the care of Dr Hendry, of j Port Chalmers. ■ ' The Cromwell Argus mentions in connection with the death of John Mooney, by-a fall over a cliff while rabbiting, that the body was*in a locality which made it dangerous to attempt to recover it. Constable Duggan at once gob together some half dozen of a party on whom he could depend, and with lanterns Bet off to see if any assistance could be givenlf .Mooney was alive, or to recover the body if he was dead. The cliff over which Mooney fell, called P ; igeoa rock, overhangs Firewood Creek ; ib is about 400 ft in heighb and nearly perpendicular.' After great difficulty the body was recovered, got on a door, and the party, in relays, had to* climb the hill on one side and bring it down the same . distance on the other. - - A young man named Langley met. with a serious accident at New Plymouth on Saturday. He was standing on a plank, which slipped, when he was thrown into the air, falling on his head as he descended. He is unconscious',' and it is feared the injury will prove fatal. - * ' Mrs Ibbotson, a resident of St. Clair, 1 was thrown from ' her horse on Monday morning in front of the City Hotel. She was picked up and carried into the hotel, where she was attended to by Dr Batchelor, who found that the lady had escaped with some bruises and a x severe shaking. Tho body of a woman, 60 years of age, was found on Takapuna beach, Auckland on Monday. It is supposed from her dress and appearance she was from the gumfields. ." At the inquest on Fred. Edward *,' Rosier, who while walking up " College road, ~ Auckland, turned aside on to V vacant allotment and died instantly, a - yerdiot waa returned of "Death from aneurism of the heart." He was a remittance ma'ri, being a younger son of the late Colonel Rbsser, of the 16th Lancers. He had been 30 years in Auok- ' land. He leaves a widow and five children. A young woman— Miss Bowater— living - in Wellington was accidentally shot with a revolver, on Monday evening. The bullet went through her jaw. She is not so seriously injured as might have been expected. It appears her - sister had a child in her lap, who, was playing with a revolver. She snapped it at the window without result, and another woman .then said she would have " a try," and fired at the'ejoor, hitting Mis 3 Bowater, who was entering. The bullet was afterwards picked up on tho floor. '■ , A young man named J. Japp, 'a sheep farmer at Waimate, is missing. He had to ford rivers on his way home on the 18th inst, and has not been seen since, although his horse, saddle, and bridle were found. ' The river is being dragged. -, ,
