Numbered Charade.— By Colonslie :— My whole is a well-known British city ; my 4, 9, 2 is a man's name, transpose the same, a falsehood appears ; 9, 2, 3, 4 is to exist, transpose the same, and it means that which is wrong ; 6, 7, 8, 9 is a pit of water, transposed it is a noose ; 8, 3, 4, 5 is above ; 6, 8, 4 was a well-known writer ; 1, 2, 6 is near your mouth ; 6, 7, 8, 5 is not rich ; 6, 5, 7, 3, 4 is to substantiate ; when you are 2, 9, 1 you often get a 6, 2, 9, 1 ; 9, 2, 3, 4, 5 is a part of the human body ; and 7, 2, 1 is a liquid. The lowest reading of the thermometer iv 35 yoars (24 0) in Sydney is reported as having been made on the 4th inst. Throughout the colony severe frosts are reported. Kiandra, as usual, heads the reports as the coldest spot in New South Wales. The minimum there was T, or 25' of frost. > Kiandra's record was made in 1872, however, when the temperature fell to 8 f below zero.
