July 11.— In this district war against bunny nas reached its final Btage, poisoning being in full swing. A few of the settlers have been expert- • menting with toxa. but the reports of the results are so varied that no definite opinion can be gl JtfAßfoittG Orders —The officers of the local corp3 of the Salvation Army are under marching orders. The vacancy, I understand,-will be supplied By an officer who was here previously, and who is sure to receive a hearty welcome.. Obituary.— People in this district were taken quite by surprise at the news of the death of the lata Robert' Bell. Deceased was greatly respected by all who knew him. In his public capacity as a school teacher he occupied a prominent position. He was also an active worker in social reform, and had held one of the principal offices in the Pride of the Glen Lodge, 1.0.G T. It is but a short time since he was married, and much sympathy is felt for Mrs Bell in her bereavement. Evangelistic— Messrs Anderson and Little, two evangelists-from Dunedin, have, for the last two nights been conducting' services in the Athena-urn Hall. The meetings have been fairly at ENTERTAiNMENT.-The Pukerau Variety Club gave an entertainment in the new hall, Waikoikoi, on Friday last. The proceeds were m aid of, the building fund. As is usual in that district, there was a good attendance, which consequently has materially improved the state of the funds. Skating Rink.— ln' the new hall, Waikoikoi, a skating rink has been formed, and at present is fairly rushed, the demand for skates being much in advance of the supply. I understand, however, that this barrier, will be overcome shortly, and that in the future there will be an ample supply. M I.S.— The Waikoikoi Mutual Improvement Society opened' on Tuesday laßt, the Rev. W. Scorgie delivering the opening address.
