(From Our Own Correspondent.) Arrow, July B.—The Gallant Tipperary, cleaning up for the winter, obtained 58oz 6dwt of retorted gold from 210 tons .of atone. Athough this result is rather below the average returns of the mine, it shows that considering the facilities of working and treating the quartz and the fact that there is plenty of medium-grade stone iv the mine, the question of making it a satisfactory paying concern depends chiefly upon the crushing power of the company. At present they run three batteries of four stampers each. It is reported that Mr D. Enright has sold his share(one naif) in his>luicing claim at Maori Point, Shotover, the price quoted being £300, which, considering the extent and quality of the ground yet to be worked, is cheap. Mr E. Sainsbury is the purchaser. ... ,n A good deal of prospecting is going on, at Cardrona chiefly, but also at several points of the Shotover and at Maoetown, including both alluvial and quartz ventures.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Reefton, July 9. Battery returns:—Cumberland, 86oz amalgam from 78 tons; Globe, 1560z amalgam from 175
No. 1 and No. 2 next week, so you may expect a return from these elevators about 17th, if weather permits of working. Expect to have the elevator near the river connected on Monday, and anticipate good returns from the wash at this point." The following items are from the Dunstan Times:— "lt is reported that the Chicago dredge at Alexandra obtained 240z of gold for the week before last, and last week about 40oz, The pneumatic dredge party at Alexandra are not doing so well as formerly, and the last two tubes they put down have turned out very poor. Messrs Paget and party have their elevator placed in position in Golden Gully, ready for the spring, when, with a good supply of water, they expect to get on very good gold. The Hydraulic Company washed up last Saturday after a fortnight's running, which included a lot of broken time, and obtained looz 19dwt. They have shut down for the present, as the water supply is very irregular owing to the hard frost."
