TAPANUI.

May 9.— T c weather for the past week has been like a great many people— very changeable. On Monday morning the Blue Mountains were covered with snow. The people were scarcely prepared for such a rapid change, as the weather previously had been remarkably fine, and it was thought it would continue. Entertainments.— We have had a great time during the past week. On Wednesday and Thursday we had a visit from the Marian Willis Company ; on Friday and Saturday, the Foleys ; and on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesda}', Mr Knott, temperance lecturer. Tapanui may be dead m many respects, but to all appearance she is alive "bible — The Rev. W. Scorgie commenced his Bible class for the season on Wednesday last. The subject chosen for the opening was Higher Criticism and the Book of Genesis. There was a large attendance, which it is hoped will continue. If the people can only manage to digest what they receive as food, a wonderful advance in knowledge will be the result ; but I am afraid that the digestive organs will require to be in good form. Threshing.— The threshing season has now come to a close. It has fceen a most successful one. Never before have we had such favourable weather at this period of the year, and never has even the oldest settler in the neighbourhood known the Pomahaka river "to ba so low. At some points it could be quite easily stepped over.
