ENTERTAINMENT AT WAIKOUAITI.
A pleasant entertainment took place in the Waikouaiti Presbyterian Church on Monday evening, when Miss Christie, the eldest daughter of " the Manse," was presented, on the eve of her marriage, with a handsome and substantial wedding present, in the shape of a beautiful white marble clock, by the congregation, in token of her many and varied services to tha church and Sabbath school. Mr Scott, one oE the elders, in a neat speech made the presentation, ani referred to the work done by Miss Christie almost from childhood. Mr Clark, the bridegroom-elect, on behalf of Miss Christie, thanked the congregation for their valuable present and for the expressions of good feeling which prompted the gift. Mr John Duncan, of Corner Busb, made a happy speech, dwelling upon the assistance he personally and the congregation in general derived from Miss Christie's efforts in congregational and Sabbath school work, and concluded by informing his hearers that there were a few more daughters yet left in " the Manse," nnd that the one now about to leave it was a sample of what the others would turn out. Tea and cake were served out about 8 o'clock to an assembly of nearly 200, who, notwithstanding the stormy night, turned out to show their respect to the intended bride. Mr Burness returned thanks to the ladies who assisted, to the choir, and to the speakers. The Rev. Mr Christie occupied the chair, and the choir gave suitable musical selections. Altogether two hours of pleasant sociable enjoyment was spent.
Last week 4080 tons of coal were exported from Greymouth, and 5030 from Westpoit.
