The Australian edition of the Review of Reviews for April contains quite a number of articles that will be perused with pleasure and profit. A new cover has been adopted, and there can be little doubt the change is an improvement. The design is smaller and more effective than the one it replaces, and possibly because ib is less emblematic is more intelligible. To some it will be a comfort to find that the distressed sheep and the impossible kangaroo have disappeared from the froßt page of the Review of Reviews. As intimated, the contents of the issue for April are quite up to the average; there is no falling off in either illustrations or letter-press. The Australasian section contains the usual article on •' The Progress of the Colonies." Reference is made to the leading public topics, and New Zealand is referred to as being financially * ' the envy and the admiration of all the sister colonies." The articles on " The Great Australasian Dailies " are continued, and the Otago Daily Times and Otago Witness form the subject of a wellwritten and accurate historical sketch, which is illustrated by portraits of the editor and managing director, Mr George Fen'wick, Sir Julius Vogel, Mr W. H. Cutten, and of the editor of the Witness, Mr William Fenwick. The European section contains a graphic and freely illustrated character sketch of Frederick Courtney Selous, an African lien hunter ; a readable article on "Neo-Stundism in Russia" ; "A Parable," by the Russian apostle of Socialism, Count Tolstoi ; and a great mass of other valuable literary matter.
