Wicklow is a very handsome bright bay horse, foaled 10th June 1888, stands about 16 hands high, on short legs, shows a lot of quality, combined with great strength, and is a grand mover. He was bred by W. A. Rice, Esq., County Dublin, Ireland. His sire, Arbitrator, by Solon out of True Heart, by Musjid (winner of the Derby), by Newminster ; his dam, Mary Jane, by Pompey (son of Emiliuß) ; her dam, Ratifia, by Bay Middleton. Solon is the sire of the famous Barcaldine, for which 7000gs was paid, and which is now worth 10,000gs a season to his owner for stud purposes in England. Wicklow's dam, Flora Mac, by Xenophon (see English Stud Book). Xenophon was the sire of Seaman and Sirius, two of the greatest steeplechasers of their day, having run first and second in the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase. Wicklow's granddam. Flora, by Old Zouave, who was sire of that great steeplechase horse The Lamb, who was twice winner of the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase. G. granddam by Mountain Deer, by Touchstone from Mountain Sylph ; g. g. granddam by Sir Hercules, the sire of Irish Birdcatcher. It will be seen, from Wicklow's splendid breeding, great substance, fine quality, and grand action, that he ought to make a sire to get horses suitable for any market. 29s Vuuefliu Jockey Club.
