MAUNGATUA.
September 26.— 1 have this week to record the decease of anuthcr of the fast-diminishing band of old identities— Mr William Heenan, who expired at his residence on the evening of the Saturday before last. Mr Heenan was a native of Ireland, and ciino t'» Otago during the c irly dnys along with his parents. In the course of time he acquired a considerable amount of property. Mure than 30 years ago he settled in this district and continued to reside here until his decease. Since he came to this neighbourhood Mr Heenan has taken an interest in mat ters relating to tho district, and more particulaily so during the L»st three yeais, when, after the residents had failed to float a dairy factory company, he took the matter in his own hands and staited the Maunfratua Dairy Factory at his own risk. It proved of immense advantage to the residents. Mr Heenan leaves a widow and a numerous family, and he is likely to be long remembered in the neighbourhood as an enterpiUiog resident and obliging neighbour. . v Outjiam Public Libkary.— Tho closing entertainment of the series in aid of this institution was held in the Outram Public Hall last Thursday evening. There was a fair attendance, and the usual programme was successfully gone through. At the close of the meeting the chairman, Mr Alex. Chi«holm, stated that over Lls had been realised by means of these entertainments, and this he had no doubt would prove a handsome addition to tho library funds.
