Otago school commissioners.
A riieeting of the Otago School Commissioners .was held on Mouday. Present — Messrs J. I. Maitiand (chairman), J. Walker Bain, Thomas Denliistou, and Jas. Green.
Mr J, O. N ichols, lessee of sections 22 and 23, block VI [, Otepopo, wrote asking that the commissioners accept surrender of his lease from Ist May next, and to re-offer the sections for lease in November next, so that in the event of his becoming t le«>ee he could plough it this year for turnipn.— The Commissioners decided to accept surrender of the lease from Ist May 1893, but to notify Mr Nichols that in this case they could not to re-offer the land before March 1803. V'j-Ir A. H: Kei-pthorne applied for a right to saw timber and split fencing logs in the bush at Littleburn, run 21)2.— The request was declined. Mr. J., L. 'M'Uonald, in his monthly report, stated that Mr J. I/inn had signified his willingness.to continue the tenure of section 11, block VII, East Wiuton, recently occupied by hib father.and had paid up the rent in arreais.— 3t was decided to offer no objection to those arrangements. , A letter was forwarded by Mr M' Donald from Mr .Neil llendcison, lessee of a coalpit on run 254h to the efFe^t that he had bold his internt in the same to Kdward Veal, and asking for the consent of the commitfaiouers to the transfer.— lt
was decided to inform Mr Henderson that his right to the mine expired on December 31, 1892. Mr M'Donnld forwarded an application froty Mr A. Mitchell, lessee of sections 2'.ahd 3, block VI, Edeudale, for permission to transfer" to John Eads.— The application was granted. "• ' • - 'Ihe Secretary reported that Mr' James Shand had surrendered his lease of gravel reserve on block X, Waikaia, and suggested that the lease be offered at tho first safe.— The suggestion was agreed to. , v .- Mr M'Donald suggested that lenses'- 'of sections in the Wendon, Wendonside, 'and Waik'aia dis. tricts, now falling in, shouldbe offered for sale at Riversdale. and that the sgctjons 4 in' block IV, Wendonside district, be included^ at reduced upsets.
