Bell-Irving, a retiring tenant in Dumfriesshire, were recently valued over to the^proprietor at the following rates :— Cheviot ewes and .singlo halfbred lambs, \\s per ewe and lamb,; Cheviot ewes and twin halfbred lambs,' best, 50s; others, 445; shotfc ewes, 30s ; eild t ewes, best, 30s ; shotts, 20s ; ewe hoggs, 26*. • The loss of hoggets in the Oroua County, say 8 a Wellington exchange, has been unusually large this Beaso'n, due to the several causes of overstocking, dirty . pasture, the_ cold wet weather, and lung worm. Mr Jeffries, on Forlong's road, was losing his hoggets at the rate of 60 a week from lung worm, and 600 had already died' of 1400 he had. on the land, when he commenced to dose them with Larry's anthelmintjc, and the mortality ceased. A Manawatu settler utilises a novel method of getting his ewes to adopt strange lambs. He rubs the nostrils of the ewe with turpentine as well as the coat of the lamb, and the result has been eminently satisfactory.
