GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Messrs William •E. Reynolds and Co., Stafford street, report iai the week ending September 21 as follows :— We are now- fairly into spring and being favoured with very fine weather indeed for all farm work, which we are glad to say is being taken advantage of iWevery district. Wheat.— We cannot report anything fresh with Tegard to' the market for this cereal. There is practically no demand) outside that of our local millers, andthey do not care to buy ordinary and inferior qualities, of which there is any quantity available, unless at what they consider a cheap price, while fovprime they are disposed to operate at a slight reduction- on late quotations._ Everything considered we cannot look for any improvement in prices for some considerable time to come at any rate. We quote:— Prime Tuscan and velvet, 3s- 6d to 3s 8d ; good medium, up to 3s 3d ; ordinary and fowls' feod, 2s to 2s lOd, Oats.— Market for -these is in much the same state as when last reporting, and, we think, will remain so for. some vjeeks to come. Buyers are indifferent about purchasing unless, at a reduction, while' holders dd. not care to offer unless at full quotation prices. -^ We experienced a similar " lifelessness" about tiyo months ago, followed by a distinct advance in prices, and this we look for happening again at no distant date ; meantime we quote prime feed aftd milling up to 2s ; good ordinary, Is 9£d to Is lOJd : medium and inferior, Is 7d.to Is J)d. . V ChaftV— There is a slightly better demand for this, owing to t<he'6upply being lighter, especially for prime quality,- which we can quote up to 52s 6d; ordinary andinfe'rior, from 35s to 47s 6d, according to quality. , ' Potatoes.— Owing to-l ow prices ruling, supplies are lighter ; at the sarnie time it is very difficult to get 32a 6d for-besfc. Seeds. — We can report little, if any, alteration with regard to these. still continues in full supply, while' the dpmand is certaiDly not as large as was looked for, but prices nevertheless keep much about the game, especially for heavy and well-dressed old pasture lines, which we quote up to 4s 3d; qrdinary machine-dressed, from 3s fid to 3s 9d, and even less if in large quantities. Cocksfoot is with fair sale at price's about equal to what nave been ruling for some time past— viz., for best, up to 4Jd ; ordinary, from 2^d to S^d. • Clovers are also in good demand and there is every prospect of a shortage as stocks are not large. We shall be glad to send samples and quotations.ou application.
