M'Kewen, the rider of Lizzie, against the stakes being awarded to Dexterina on the ground that her jockey had received something from a party on the course between the time of weighing out and weighing in. On an inquiry being held, it was elicited that a trotting boot had been handed to the rider of Dexterina by a man named Conn, an employe of the club, who acknowledged that he hacl done so, but stated he was not aware that he was doing anything wrong. The rules of trotting on the point are identical with those of racing, and provide that if a jockey, unless by accident, touch any person or thing except his own equipment, before weighing in, he may be disqualified ; and under these rules the stewards upheld the protest, and awarded the stakes to Lizzie.
