LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), H. Clark, J. Duncan, A. M'Kerrow, and W. Dallas. Dunedin. — Mr John Collins applied to purchase portion of the old bed of the Water of Leith through section 10, block XXXVI, Dunedin, of which he is the owner.— Consideration ■of the matter was adjourned for a fortnight. Maerewhenua.— Mr D. Sutherland, of Duntroon, applied for a grazing right over sections 24 and 25, block V, Maerewhuna district, on the usual conditions. — Referred to Ranger Hughan to report. Leaning Rock. — Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. applied for an extension of run No 221 c, by including sections 121, 122, 123, and 124, block 11, Leaning Rock district, as without them the run would be without water for stock when run 221 d was surveyed for settlement — Referred to the chief surveyor to report. Shotover.— Mr J. W. Baker desired to take up section 9, block X, Shotover district, which had been found to be no good for mining purposes. — The board had no power to_ deal with the land, it having been reserved for mining purposes. Woodland.— Mr J. D. Calder and Mrs M. T. Calder applied for a grazing right over section 12 and southern part of section 13, block XI, Woodland district. — Referred to the chief commissioner to arrange. Blackstone. — Mr P. Jenkins asked that when Run 226 d was surveyed for settlement 490 acres be laid off adjoining his land in the Blackstone district, so as to extend his holding to (540 acres. — Referred to the chief surveyor to give effect to the applicant's wish as far as possible. Lower Wanaka. — Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., on behalf of Mrs M. M'Lcod and Mrs A. B. Muir, asked that a gracing right over section 1, block VI, Lower Wanaka district, granted to John Matheson, be withdrawn, as he had neither poisoned nor used the land. They further asked that the right be given to their clients, as they were the nolders of the adjoining Runs 239 338b and 33Sg, and had for the last two years poisoned the section in question. They also asked for the right to occupy the hut on section 1, block 111, Lower Ilawea district, on undertaking to keep the section clear of rabbits. — Tho question of a grazing right over section I, block VI, Lower Wanaka was referred to Ranger Mackenzie to report, and it was decided to allow the applicants a grazing right over section 1, block HI.

Skippers Creek.— Mr William Palmer wrote objecting to a grazing right over sections 10 and 11, block 111, Skippers Creek, being granted to Mcssr3 O'Neill and Dwan. — It was resolved that Messrs O'Neill and Dvyan be informed that the temporary right of grazing over the sections in question could not be allowed in any way to interfere with mining operations. Maerewhenua.— Mr W. T. M'Gimpseyrapplied for crazing right over Reserves, sections 8 and 0 block XVI, Maerewhenua district on the usual conditions.— Referred to tho chief commissioner to arrange. DUNEDIN AND EAST TAIERI DISTRICT.— The Perpetual Trustees Estate ami Agency Company applied on behalf of Gordon Buckles for a graizing right over section 46, block XI, Dunedin and East Taieri district, on the usual conditions. — Referred to chief commissioner to arrange. Newcastle Town.— Ranger Mackenzie having reported on J. F. King's application to purchase one acre adjoining the cemetery, Newcastle Town, the application was declined. Appl'Catioxs. — Tho following applications were approved :— Rural land for cash : Daniel Heenan, section 30, Mock I, Maungatua. Rural land on perpetual lease : Gordon Buckles, sections 44 and 45, block I, Dunedin and East Taieri district ; Charles J. luder, section 2fi, block 11, Manitoto district; William Glen, section 25, same block ; D. Duncan, section 24, same block. Village settlement land on perpetual lease : Robert Tullock, section 49, block IT, GJenomaru. To ransfer perpetual leas ejland : John Mason Platts to Alice Laura Plato, sections 4, 5, and 10, block I, Upper Wakatipu. Rock and Pillar.— Patrick Kinney applied to nave forfeiture of perpetual lease section S, block X, Rock and Pillar district, rescinded.— Granted, r — Mr A. C. Martin, on behalf of Messrs Mathewson and Pearson, the occupiers of section 10, block VI, Rock and Pillar district, applied that they might be allowed to take up their portion of the section. — Referred to the chief surveyor to have surveys effected, so that the land may be offered.

Hummock.— Messrs D. Reid and Co. wrote on behalf of B. It. Whitton, requesting the board to reconsider its decision with reference to small grazing run 158, lately held by J. Cunningham, and urging that section 1, block 11, Hummock district, be offered by itself.— The board adhered to its previous resolution iv regard to the matter.
