FARMERS' UNION.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Farmers' Union was held on Tuesday in the Chamber of Commerce Hall, and was attended by Messrs G. M. Bell (president), William Livingston, W. R. Moore, John Macgregor, and James Green.

It was resolved that the amendments in the Stock Bill considered desirable by the executive be embodied in a circular to be sent to the Minister for Lauds, and that the opinion of the several clubs be obtained on the subject. It was decided that the president should write to the Premier, setting out the alterations considered desirable in the railway rates and freights, in terms of No. 4 of the conference's resolutions.

The following resolution was carried — " That after giving the circular of the Country Settlers' League of Canterbury very full consideration, the executive agree generally with its provisions, and recommend the several farmers' clubs in this district to give their consideration to the same at their earliest convenience."

It was further decided to communicate with tho secretary of the Farmers' and Country Settlers' League, Canterbury, nnd prefer the request that all papers of interest in connection with the league be forwarded to the president of the Farmers' Union (Mr G. M. Bell, Wantwood, Otago).

Inward correspondence was read, and the acting-secretary was instructed as to the nature of the replies ; and tho outward correspondence was read and approved.

The Acting-secretary reported that he had not received any additional fees since the meeting of the conference.

It was resolved that the president should send a circular to the several clubs asking if they would make the necessary provision for tho employment of a permanent secretary. Some small accounts were passed for payment.

It was agreed to hold tho next meeting of the executive in September, and at that time to fix the date of the meeting of conference.
