TAPANUI.
August 2. — A concert in aid of the funds of the Dramatic Club was held in the Athemuum on Friday last. A capital programme was provided, the performers including the be-.t amateur vocalists in the district ; but so far as the audience was concerned it proved a complete failure, scarcely L 4 being taken at the door.
Heiuot Ploughing Match, — The annual ploughing match came off on Friday last in a paddock belonging to Win. M'Donald. There were 19 ploughs on the ground. Owing to the severe frost it was a late hour before a start could be made, consequently there was a late finish. In the champion class Ladbrook, of Mataura, was again to the fore.
Religious.— The Rev. W. Scorgie's address on Sunday night was on the liquor traffic, and it could not fail to meet with the hearty approval of all true lovers of temperance. The rev. gentleman dealt with the demoralising and soul-destroying effects of strong drink.
Tuo-or-w\R. — A representative team from Tapanui went to Gore on Fiiday last to try conclusions with a team there. 'Ihe teams comprised seven members on each side. The total weight of the Tapanui team was !)2st 111b, and of the Gore team 105 st 111b. After one of the most determined struggles ever witnessed the Tapanuites were declaied victoiious, after a pull of lhr 35min.
1.0.G T. — On Thursday eveningthere was a large turn-outof members belonging to the Blue Mountain Lodge, 74 beingpresent. The principal business was the election of oflicers for the ensuing quarter, and this resulted as follows :— C.T Bro. A. Stead ; V.T., Sis. Mary Crawford ; P.C.T , Sis. A. Davidson ; secretary, Bro. W. Whitefield ; A.S., Sis. J. Boyd ; F.S., Bro. Moore ; treasurer Bro. J. M'Farlane ;M.,8r0 J. Lind ; C, Bro J. A. Lochore ; J. G., Bio. D. Al'Kenzie ; (J.G., Bro. J. Lind, jun. It was resolved to hold an entertainment under the auspices of the Blue Mountain Lodge at Heriot on Wednesday, 10th inst.
