WANGALOA.

June 12.—1t is with regret that I have to record the death of another residont in our midst in the person of Mrs Robertson, who departed this life on Thursday last, after a long and painful illness Her sufferings were borne with great patience and complete submission to the Divine will. Mrs Robertson leaves behind her two of a family —a boy and girl, both of whom are very young. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Robertson in his sad affliction. The funeral took place on Saturday, and was attended by most of the settlers in the district. The ltev. Mr Fairmaid officiated at the grave. A Visitor.—The Rev. Mr Bannerman, of Dunedin, preached in the schoolhouse here on Sunday afternoon last to a very large audience, the building boing crowded to excess. He likewise gave a magic lantern entertainment in the schoolhousa on Monday night, in aid of the mission fund ; but owing to the inclemency of the weather the attendance was not largo. The church choir contributed the musical .items. The usual votes of thanks having been passed, the meeting broke up. Lambing has begun early in Southland. Mr A. M'Kenzie, of Oturamika, having had additions to his /lock during the past week. The North Otago Times says that it understands that the Oamaru refrigerating works have been shut down owing to the scarcity of freezinc sheep. ° . The Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association have passed a resolution requesting the Geraldine County Council to take over the destruction of small birds within the county. Sheep are being trucked from Oamaru to the Belfast (Canterbury) freezing works.
