London, May 6. The Bank of England returns, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be L 15.024.000. The proportion of reserves to liabilities is 41-66. Consols, 97. Three months' bills are quoted atli per cent. New Zealand stocks are steadily improving. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock is at 104 ; 3i percent, ditto, 95i. New Zealand lon*g-berried wheat, 38s 6d ; steady. Hemp, fair quality, averages L2l ; but there is no demand fdr the article. Wellington mutton, 4|d; Canterbury lamb, New Zealand butter, best factory-made, 94s to 104s. The season is closed. Kauri gum is in good demand, and a rise of 2s 6d to 10s is recorded. Pale, hard scraped, L 9; three-quarter scraped, L4 lss. South Australian wheat is at 39s 6d, and firm ; Victorian, 395, as forward business in Australasian cargoes is -inactive. Foreign arrivals are moderate. There are no Australasian cargoes off the coast or Sugar : German beet, 12s 9d ; Java, 15s 4Jd. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron /f.o.b. in the Clyde), 41s ; market flat. May 8. Tallow: Medium mutton, 25s 9d ; beef, 24s 3d. The English wheat market is firmer, Continental steady, and American declining. A cargo of wheat from South Australia sold at 365. The imports last quarter show a- decrease of L 4.000.000 and the exports of L 3.000.000. The Antwerp wool sales are fixed for the 17th to. the 20th inst. Up to date 8000 bales have been catalogued, 200 of which como from Australia. Silver, 3s 3Jd. ,
