May 2. —The threshing is pretty well finished throughout the district, and -in every instance I have made inquiries as to yield' it has been "disappointing. The generally favourable weather, we have had for stacking and threshing; has helped matters a little, as there ha 3 been little or no damage done to the stacks,' <fee, and nearly ill the grain has been threshed dry, which' of course is a very important desideratum. The continued low prices for grain keeps' things dull and spiritless. Stock of every description looks -well, feed being very plentiful, The railway authorities have managed things pretty well- here through' the grain season, having stationed wvery active young fellow to regulate matters and save conf usiqn aou misunderstanding. . - - •_ Threshers-B all.— A very successful batll'was held in the hall a little while since. The night's amusement was much appreciated by those whd attended it. ' ' ' > School Committee Election.— As has already, been reported in your columns, the new School Committee waselected induecourse. The committee is composed of nearly if not all new members. It is to be hoped they will perform their duties in an impartial manner, and give due consideration to all seotious of the community 1 with whom ■ they may be brought into business contact. .It is rumoured here that the upper school is* to be shifted from the present site where it has been for many years. It iB to be hoped before such a step is taken all the conflicting interests will be dulj considered, as a change of this description made in haste mi^lit make ' matters very unpleasant for a long time.
