THE WOOL SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated May 3 :—": — " The sales dosed firmly this day. Since close of }ast sales greasy merino superior, scoured merino superior, fine greasy crossbred, and medium greasy crossbred are £d per lb higher ; washed merino superior, washed merino medium and inferior, and scoured merino medium and inferior are Id per lb higher; greasy merino^ medium and inferior and fine scoured crossbred are £d to Id higher ; medium scoured crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred, and coarse scoured crossbred are £d per lb higher ; other descriptions unchanged. The total quantity sold during the past sales is 336,000 bales, of which 212,000 bales have been taken for the Continent and 11,000 bales for America. It is estimated that 20,000 baleß have been held over for future disposal."
Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.), dated May 3:— "The sales have closed firm, and prices are irregular. Compared" with our opening rates, medium greasy merino has advanced 10 per cent, to 15 per cent. ; scoured merino, coarse crossbred, and medium crossbred advanced 5 per cent. For extra good greasy merino and fine greasy crossbred the market shows no change. Twenty thousand bales have been held over."
