For the second day of the Ashburton Autumn meeting the weather was spleudid. ' The attendance was moderate. The racing was an improvement on that of the previous day. Results : — Midland Hurdle Handicap, of 35sovs. One mile and a-half.— Captain Abram, 10.1, 1 ; Smuggler, 9.0, 2 ; Little Arthur, 11.0, 3. Magpie 11.13 and, Ihe Chicken 9.6 also ran. Magpie was cannoned against by Captain Abram and fell when going well. Thereafter Captain Abram won comfortably. Time, 3min ljsec. Dividend, L 2 3s. Grand Stand Handicap, of 55sovs. One mile and a-quarter. — Lady Zetland, 8.2, 1 ; Don Pedro, 7.13, 2, Young Cheviot, 7.10, 3. Erin-go-Bragh 7.7, Yon lempsky 7.2, and Aquarius C.9 also went to the post. Won easily, after a good race for second place. Aquarius was left at the post. Time, 2min 15sec. Dividend, L3 l4s. Wakanui Handicap, of 30sovs. One mile and a-quarter.— Beau Nash, 8.12, 1 ; Coinage, 8.2, 2 : Bay King, 10.2, 3. Count d'Orsay 8.5, The Jewel 6.12, Gloaming 6.9, and New Hope 6.7 a150 started. Won by three lengths. Time, 2min 17sec. Dividend, L7 los. Disposal Staicks, of 20sovs. Six furlongs.— Emperor 1, The Jewel 2. Won anyhow. Time, lmin 22sec. Dividend, LI 6s. The winner was sold for 17sovs.
Welter Handicap, of 35sovs. One Mile.— Don Pedro, 9.10, 1; Erin-go-Bragh, 9.10, 2; Coinage, 8.10, 3. The Idler 9.13, May 9.4, Tom Field 9*4, Yon Tempsky 9.3, and Tassy 8.9 also ran. Won very easily. Time, lmin 48sec. Dividend, L43s.
Harvest Handicap, of 30sovs. Six furlongs.— Aquarius, 8.11, 1 ; Victim, 7.12, 2 ; Aparima, 7.2, 3. Beau Nash 9.4 [including 71b penalty], Kilmarnock 8.2, Pennine 7.4, Sebastopol 6. 12, Calm 6.7, and New Hope 6.7 also started. A good race. Won by a length. Time, lmin 19sec. Dividend, L 6 9s.
Consolation Handicap, of 15sovs. One mile, —Coinage, 8.7, 1 ; New Hope [carried 6.11], 2 ; Queen Bee, 7.0, 3. Won with tho utmost ease Time, lmin 50sec. Dividend, LI ss.
The amount put through the totalisator was L 1643, or L 3483 for the meeting.
