SOUTHLAND RAM SALE.
Messrs H. Carswell and Co. report havine held their annual sale of rams at the Invercanrill yards on Friday, Ist inst., as follows :— The attendance of the public was good, buyers having m some cases come from a considerable distance. The class of sheep on the whole was not up tothat of former years, owing to the fact that rams are m large demand and were sold privately Considerable numbers of culls were brought forward, reducing the average standard. In Leicesters some of the well-known breeders were forward with a few splendid specimens, for which there was brisk competition. Mr George Sutton had a few pens of Lincolns forward, but owing to the late place they had in the sale competition was not brisk, the sheep having to be passed in a line The following is a list of our sales, with prices realised :—: —
For William Butler : 23 Leicester rams at from ljg to 2igs. For John Russell : 19 Leicester ram lambs at from 25s to 34s ; also, 12 do do at lg ; also, Ido ram at' 4igß ; also, Idodo at 4gs ; also, Idodo at 4sgs, 2 do do at 2Jgs, 3 do do at 225. For John M'Crostie : 1 two-tooth Leicester ram at 7igs, 1 four-tooth do do at B}gs, 5 four-tooth Leicester ewes at 3Jgs to Mr James Anderson
(Wright's Bush) ; 5 do do at 3Jgs to Mr Alfred Beayen ; 10 do do to Mr K. G.M'Kenzio. Privately, for Mr George Sutton: 2 Lincoln rams at 3gs. For Messrs M'Kercher Brothers: 1 Leicester ram to Mr Anderson at 10gs : 1 do do to same buyer at 9Jgs ; 1 do do to Mr William Dunlop at !).tgs; 1 do do to J. and W. Coster at L 8 8s ; 2do do to Mr R. Blakie at L 8 Bs.
For Mr James King (Woodlands): 1 Leicester ram to Mr E. Hankins at s}gs ; 1 do do to Mr John Coster at 6Jgs ; Idodoto Mr John Taylor at Bigs ; Ido do to Mr Alexander Garrard at Sljgs ; Ido do samo buyer at 6}gs. For Muir Brothers (Fortification) : 2!) Leicester rams at from lg to 2}gs. For J. C. Ellis (Merivale) : 4 Lincoln rams at 2Jgs ; 4dodo at 3gs ; 3do do at 2-]gs.
