WAIKOIKOI.

April 2.— A good part of the crop is now secured ; still there is a considerable quantity, yet in the stook, Mr William Bremner had a large area leased from Mr Gladstone Robinson, and has been very hard at work getting his heavy yield ready for the market. Mr Bremner has over 20 men employed. To-day I saw a very fair sample of wheat grown on the Merino Downs. Soon our roads will be crowded with oarts laden withgiain.' The shed at the siding will be full, and there will be no end to the demand for trucks, Commercial.— Our two stores are, I believe, in a thriving condition. Soon it will bo impossible to approach them on foot for mud, Surely beforo another winter our worthy councillors will soo that our township road is substantially gravelled. The Clutha County Council must be entirely ignorant of the following facts. Our township is in the midst of large estates. It is situated on the main road between Tapanui and Gore, and besides possessing one of the handsomest ohurohes outside Dunedin, it has also a first-class publio library. Add to these two flourishing grocers' stores, an excellent public school, and two busy blacksmiths' shops, and if these do not entitle us to gravelled roads, what will ? Scholastic— lnspector Goyen made his animal surprise visit some short time ago, and his report, - which has just been received by our local teacher, shows that the school is in a very satisfactory state.

Prizes,— JVo prizes for first class attendance at school, the handsome gift of Mr B. Simmers, were secured by Miss M. Scott and Master D. Crawford respectively. Mr Alexander Reid, chairman of the school committee, presented the books-^copies of Harper's Young People— on Friday morning, and a pointed speech urged on all present to attend to their education while they were young. Mr Reid has promised to give prizes for best attendance this year. Ecclesiastic— The Rev. William Scorgie continues to servo us faithfully. I might be allowed to suggest to the sessions of Tapanui and Waikoikoi that they should come to some arrangement as to fixing an annual holiday for the rev. gentleman.
