PENINSULA.

Road Board. — The regular monthly meeting of the Road Board, held at the board's office, Highcliff, was attended by Messrs Stuart (chairman), Fairbairn, Somerville, Reikie, Grainger, and Murray. — The Chairman reported having accepted the tender of Alexander Aitken for the supply of metal at Sandymount at 4s 2d per yard, and Messrs Grainger and Murray reported having accepted the offer of Alexander Aitken for widening the Seal Point road for the sum of L6.— The tender of Reikie and Gill for the supply of metal on Popham's road at 4s 2Jd per yard was accepted. — It was resolved to put 20yds of metal, at a price not to exceed 3s 6d per yard, on the Manse road. — Messrs Ferguson, Mathieson, and Brown appeared before the board in support of a petition praying for the removal of obstructions placed on the road line by Mr 11. Inglis.— The chairman was given full power to take such steps as he might be advised by the board's solicitors and to act without delay.— A letter from Mr Hutchison, surveyor, forwarding plan of Hon. Mr Larnach's property, compiled _by him, and alleging that the Portobello road line encroached on that property to the extent of 21 poles, was received. — The clerk was directed to give notice to persons sledging on No. 1 road, Highcliff, to at once stop the practice. — It was resolved that tenders be advertised in a fortnight for 940 yds of metal in various places in the district, of which 70yds are for Edmond's road, 200 for Somerville's road, 50 for Vauxhall road, 200 for Portobello road — from the church towards Highcliff, 200 on the Bay road, 150 on No. 1 road, 25 on No. 3 road, and 45 on Fergusson's road. — The \\ orking inspector of dairies was empowered to take action in putting down certain nuisances complained of. — Accounts amounting to LBO 14s 6d were passed for payment.— The debit balance at bank on March 31 was L 179 4s lid
