NOTES BY JACK.

The last interclub match for the season between| the Christchurch and Sydenham Bowling Clubs was played on Saturday afternoon on the green of the Christchurch Club. The game resulted in a victory for the Christchurch Club by 34 points.

HOWLING AT THE TAIEHI.

The Advocate says :—": — " The semi-final in the Champion Single - handed Tournament for members of the Taieri Bowling Club was played on the local green on Saturday, the 26th. The competitors were Messrs D. Mackie and J. White, and as both were players of repute a close and interesting contost was anticipated. Both started well, the shots boing very good ones. White endeavoured to drive on one or two occasions, but was evidently out of form, and Mackie soon obtained a substantial lead, being 9 points ahead of his opponent, the score at this stage being 13—4. White then scored, laying two at one head and one at the other ; but jn the next few heads Mackie sent down some splendid shots, scoring two and one respectively. Mackie, who had obtained 'a good lead, again scored, White's driving being very weak. Mackie laid the shot for three heads, the scores then being : Mackie 19, White 9. From this out the result was never in doubt, as Mackie went out easily, thus winning the semi-final of the Championship Tournament. At the conclusion of the game the scores were ; Mackie 21, White 9. It may be explained that White was evidently out of form, and he ascribed his faulty play to the brisk walk from Outram on a hot day.

The concluding rounds in the first draw of the Double-handed Tournament were played off on the same day. W. Turnbull and J. O'Grady (three below) met J. F. Leary and J. Turnbull (one below) and defeated them ; and Dr Allan and J. Easton (five below) defeated W- Wedderspoon and T. Neil (two below). The rounds of the second draw were then commenced, and two teams met and concluded their respective games. The second draw was as follows : —

W. L. Christie and J, H, Murdoch (three below) meet D. Campbell and W. Gibson (five below). J. Spence and T. Maokie, junr. (four below), meet W. Carswell and W. Fairley (five below). W. Low and W. Melrose (five below) meet W. Turnbull and J. O'Grady (three below). J. White and A. Prentice (five below) meet Dr Allan and J. Easton (five below). After an interesting game Dr Allan and his companion were victorious in their draw, the figures being very close. The games between Christie and Murdoch and Campbell and Gibson were also interesting, but the senior players were not to be denied, and managed to defeat their more youthful opponents. Thus only two rinks are to play off, and the semi-finals will be played. Caledonian v. Dunedin. The return match between the Caledonian and Dunedin Clubs was played on Saturday on

the Caledonian green. The weather was rathet cold, and some rain fell before the gamf started, but had little or no effect on the green, which Was in good order. On this occasion the Caledonian Club secured a well-deserved win by the substantial majority of 20 points, after a very' enjoyable game. The Caledonians went away with the lead in all but one rink, and maintained it to the end, having an advantage of 10 at the end of seven heads, 23 at the c"nd of the 14th head, and 20 at the end of the 21st head.
